This blog has been dormant for a while. You may, or may not, have noticed. There's a good reason for that. I've been doing a lot of writing. Some of it has been connected to the Good Thief mysteries, and some of it hasn't. I've tried my hand at writing a thriller. For most of that time, I pictured myself looking something like this:
Sadly, I suspect the reality is that I looked a lot more like this:
But either way, it was good to try my hand at a different style of writing. To venture into third person narration. To edge away from the odd gag. It seems to me it's important to experiment, to try and keep things fresh, and I know that writing in a different way has taught me a lot of things, and has me really looking forward to getting back to writing about Charlie Howard again. Shortly, I'll be taking Charlie to Berlin. He's going to be getting in a mess with the British Embassy, over a game of outdoor ping pong. But before that, The Good Thief's Guide to Venice will be coming out in late April in the UK (August in the USA) and I have some videos and photos to post as publication approaches.
Those of you with keen eyesight will have spotted that my UK publishers, Simon & Schuster, have gone for a slight redesign for Charlie's Venetian escapade. The new-look cover is up on the top left of this blog, and I'm really pleased with the outcome. I'm also pretty pleased with the way the book has turned out, and hope that you will be too. If not, there's nothing I can do. The final page proofs were returned a fortnight ago and the big button marked PRINT is about to be hit.
I'll be posting here more often from now on. Shorter, more frequent posts. That's the plan, anyway. Meantime, if you'd like to catch up with me over at Twitter I can be found @chrisewan (since I thought it best to lurk under the radar).
