If you're on the Isle of Man on Tuesday 11 May (or even if you'd like to book a plane ticket over...), then feel free to come along to the launch party for THE GOOD THIEF'S GUIDE TO VEGAS at the Jabberwocky cafe in Douglas. There'll be free wine, Vegas-themed music, and even an appearance from Elvis...
Las Vegas. We're going to Las Vegas! Oh dear. Amsterdam is so very nice and Paris is.... Well, Paris, you know. But Las Vegas? Taudry tinsel and gaudy trimmings. Wayne Newton and Paul Anka (Okay, he's Canadian and his nightclub - Jubilation? - was wonderful in disco days). The performers I saw - Ann Margaret, Glenn Campbell, and more are now senior citizens replaced with people I have never heard of at all. And Liberacie's Museum is closed, locked tight in that small shopping centre.
You can't be serious. Your VW van will be a treasure - most are now foreclosed and living in vehicles so you will fit right in. And so many unemployed - don't forget to visit the tent cities, not on the tour guide's menu.
Chris, are you mad? Of all the cities to go to, Las Vegas?
Of all the cities I have visited, LV is the last place I want to return to, even in a book. Okay, there's a nice little jazz club downtown, away from the strip if you can tear yourself away from teh dancing waters....
Oh no. LV....

Willow Arune
